Lightning doesn’t strike twice — unless you’re Peel Thunder.

It’s been an incredible three years for Peel who have gone from wooden spooners in 2019 to back-to-back premiers, capping off their 2021 season with a grand final victory over Swan Districts.

But now, set to face off against Swans again in a 2021 grand final rematch, the Thunder are wondering whether lightning strikes thrice.

“That’s always the end goal but we’ll take the old cliché, one week at a time,” coach Steve Markham said.

“If we play competitive football in the back end of the year and give ourselves the chance to make finals, anything is possible.

“We’re excited we’ve gone back to back but it’s a new season now. The past is history. The girls that have won it have the experience and we’re seeing that come through at training and gameplay.

And even after climbing the mountain twice, Peel have the incentive to do it again.

The Thunder have made multiple changes to their premiership-winning side, a handful of departures giving Peel’s next and developing generation the chance to make more history.

“We’ll see a bit of a different side this year which helps keep the enthusiasm, excitement and pressure for spots up,” Markham said.

“There are still a few young girls who haven’t experienced it so the excitement is there.”

Also in round five, South Fremantle host Claremont and East Fremantle take on West Perth.
