The Australian men's water polo team has been drawn alongside defending Olympic champions Serbia in Group B for the Tokyo Games.

Montenegro, Greece and Croatia claimed the gold, silver and bronze medals, and final qualifying spots for Tokyo, at a week-long qualifying tournament just completed in Rotterdam.

The Aussie Sharks are in a tough group comprising Serbia, Croatia, Spain, Kazakhstan and Montenegro.

Montenegro ended up missing the podium in Rio, almost five years ago, after securing fourth place while Spain and Croatia clinched silver and bronze at the 2019 world championships.
