Could ‘G-Train’ lookalike Jake Waterman become the Eagles’ ‘J-Train’?

West Coast defender Liam Duggan revealed the club’s latest gag at training, with Waterman earning comparisons to former cult figure Fraser Gehrig.

Gehrig, who played with Waterman’s dad Chris for four seasons at the Eagles before crossing to St Kilda, booted 103 goals in 2004 and had the game’s most recognisable mullet at the time.

Duggan chopped off his own mullet earlier in the year, but said he had admiration for Waterman’s efforts - even if they had developed different styles of growth.

“Jake has been growing that for a long time,” Duggan told SportFM.

“My mullet - that grew downward. Jake’s grows outward.

“He doesn’t look like he’s getting any more length to it. I think he would grow an afro if he left it all long.

“So the big fella’s a little bit disappointed with his mullet at the moment.

“But he’s stuck to it. I’ll give him credit. He’s staying with it.”

Duggan said the Gehrig comparisons were on high rotation at the Eagles ahead of the team’s trip to Geelong this week.

“That’s a bit of a gag around training at the moment,” he said.

“I reckon the comparison would be a bit closer than what you think.

“He’s got a couple of personality traits that just mimic what the G-Train was like on the field.”
