Liam Ryan has put forward an early contender for Mark of the Year with a spectacular effort in the second term against Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium.

“I thought he’d gone too early,” commentator Luke Darcy said.

Despite crashing down on his back, Ryan was able to get up and get the ball inside 50, ultimately leading to a Dom Sheed goal after a behind.

“That’s almost in his top 25, isn’t it,” Seven’s Hamish McLachlan laughed.

“We’re seeing two of the best markers who have ever played the game in Jeremy Howe and Liam Ryan.”

Ryan’s Eagles teammate Jamie Cripps then put his contender forward for goal of the round, slotting a beauty from the boundary.

Ryan’s grab was all the rage on social media, with fans in awe of his ability to repeatedly climb high.

Ryan is no stranger to the Mark of the Year competition, having won the title back in 2019 for his hangar on Melbourne’s Max Gawn.

He became just the third Eagle to win the award following on from Ashley Sampi in 2004 and Nic Naitanui in 2015.
