West Coast have taken a cheeky shot at Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir with their banner ahead of the western derby.
At the Dockers’ pre-season launch, Longmuir responded to a question from Channel 7’s Ryan Daniels asking how he spent his time outside of football by joking “there’s no fun in my life”.
And the Eagles’ cheer squad have not missed the remark, with their banner ahead of the clash with their cross-town rivals reading “Dockers are purple, Eagles are gold and blue, we have fun in our lives, how about you?”.
After his initial remark — which was shared widely on social media — Longmuir gave fans an insight into some of his hobbies outside of football.
“I like getting out on the water across summer. I get over to Rotto, go out fishing — even though we’re not allowed to fish anymore, can someone do something about that? Ask the right questions,” he said.
“I don’t get a lot of time off, need to hit up Garlo (chief executive Simon Garlick) for a few days off here and there.
“I just like to relax and get away from it. I’m a bit of a homebody when I have time off.”
Fremantle’s banner read: “Fast Freo and purple pride, strap yourselves in and enjoy the ride”.
Longmuir was appointed Fremantle’s coach in 2020 and has led the club to 72 victories across his 133 games in charge, including four from five games this year.
The Eagles are headed up by second-year mentor Andrew McQualter, who is the owner of a 10-41 win-loss record.
