Former West Coast Fever coach Sue Gaudion has been announced as the club’s general manager of pathways and performance.

The position was created on the back of the Fever’s review of their operation after the salary cap scandal, and replaces the general manager role.

Gaudion will oversee the operations and high performance pathways across grassroots netball and Fever.

She will continue her TV commentating role in 2021 and will be on the Fever’s coaching staff until head coach Stacey Marinkovich returns from Australian Diamonds duties in New Zealand.

Gaudion has extensive experience, having coached Perth Orioles in 2007 and in 2008 when they became the Fever.

She has been a high performance coach at the club since 2018.

She will start her new role immediately, taking it on with the club still reeling from its salary cap scandal which cost them a $300,000 fine, half suspended, and the loss of 12 premiership points (equal to three wins) for next season after breaching the total player payments by almost $300,000 across the 2018-19 seasons.

The club has revealed fleet cars, jobs, accommodation and travel were deliberately provided outside the salary cap when players signed contracts in 2017 and 2018.

The news of Gaudion’s appointment comes a day after the Fever announced board member Suzanne Ardagh as the club’s new chair, replacing Deane Pieters who stepped down at the end of last season.

Gaudion, a Netball WA life member, said she was looking forward to further growing the club and putting the challenges of 2020 behind them.

“I have been part of this club for so long, it’s my family and I am really excited to be taking on this role and working with not only the players and coaches but also our partners, fans and members,” Gaudion said.

“We had a rollercoaster 2020 season as the club spent 82 days in a hub, but we made it to the grand final and will continue to strive for success and show our grit.”

Applications for Netball WA’s vacant chief executive position have closed.

Simon Taylor, who was also Fever’s managing director, was CEO for more than eight years before resigning in October “to spend more time with friends and family”.

Netball WA’s general manager of people and culture Garry Chandler is filling both Taylor’s former roles.

The 2021 Super Netball season is set to start on May 1, with fixtures likely to be released this month.
