Celebrities’ luxury haunts

ITALY

+ When Serena Williams has needed some serious R&R, she’s headed to Espace Chenot—L’Albereta — a hotel in remote hills and vineyards in Erbusco in northern Italy. Its whole emphasis is on health and wellness.

+ George and Amal Clooney had their fabulous wedding in Italy and they are spotted there each summer.

FRANCE

Beyonce and Jay-Z head to San Tropez. And Beyonce has said her favourite spot there is South Beach.

ICELAND

Rebel Wilson has filled her Instagram account with comments praising Iceland, and particularly The Retreat hotel. It’s at the Blue Lagoon, and has suites with views lava or lagoon. (And Rebel stresses that they weren’t sponsored posts.)

IBIZA

Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio has been spotted on the Spanish island of Ibiza — staying at ME Ibiza, on the east coast. Think rooftop bar, world renowned DJs and a Michelin-starred restaurant pop-up.

ISTANBUL

In the capital of Turkey, east meets west. And in the Ciragan Palace Kempinski hotel, Sting might meet Madonna, and Naomi Campbell might bump into Justin Timberlake. They (and many other celebrities) have stayed in the fabulous hotel which fuses tradition and glamour.

BRITISH COLUMBIA

From Hugh Jackman to Neil Patrick Harris (and the whole Beckham family), Four Seasons Resort in Whistler is a consistent ski favourite for celebrities.

UTAH

Amangiri by Aman is a resort hotel in the Lake Powell area — and a favourite of Kim Kardashian, Drew Barrymore, Kendall Jenner and Justin and Hailey Bieber. It’s set in a red rock landscape of mesas and canyons.

MEXICO

David “Becks” Beckham, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and model and entrepreneur Cindy Crawford have all spent time in Cabo San Lucas, a resort city on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula. There’s plenty of whale watching to enjoy.

BARBADOS

Rihanna was born in Saint Michael, which gives her love of the Caribbean island deep roots. She’s often been seen hanging out on its beaches and jetskiing in its clean waters. She’s not alone — Oprah Winfrey, Hugh Grant and Justin Bieber all like the island.

COSTA RICA

Hacienda AltaGracia resort is set in more than 70ha of jungle. It has a private landing strip, coffee farm, vegetable garden and horse stables, and has been a temporary and luxurious holiday home for Reese Witherspoon, Nicholai Olivia Rothschild (Nicky Hilton, to her friends), Shaun White and actor and singer Emma Roberts. Designer Nina Gotlieb filled the hacienda-style casitas with weathered wood furniture, textured marble, stone and organic fibres. It offers the services of a pro surfer (for lessons) and a spiritual healer.

SUMBA

David Beckham reportedly brought his whole family to the Nihi Sumba resort on Sumba Island, not so far from Bali. It has a few wood and thatch villas and a reliable left-hand surf wave.

LORD HOWE ISLAND

Out in the ocean sort of midway between and Sydney and Brisbane, Lord Howe only welcomes 400 visitors at any one time, and Chris Hemsworth has been among them. No doubt he enjoyed the forest of kentia palms and banyan trees which are hundreds of years old.
