Denmark's Aalborg airport is currently closed due to drones in its airspace, a spokesperson for the airport says.

The spokesperson declined to comment on the number of drones in question.

In a post on X, Nordjyllands Police said: "Drones have been observed near Aalborg Airport and the airspace is closed. The police are present and investigating further."

Four flights were affected, the airport spokesperson added, including two SAS planes, one Norwegian and one KLM flight.

The closure comes after drone sightings delayed flights in the Danish capital Copenhagen earlier this week.

Sightings of two or three large drones near Copenhagen Airport late on Monday halted all take-offs and landings for nearly four hours.

Authorities in Norway also shut the airspace at Oslo airport for three hours after a drone was seen.

The shutdowns in the Nordic region's busiest airports left tens of thousands of passengers stranded.

Germany and other European nations in recent years have opened investigations into repeated drone flights over critical infrastructure that raised suspicions of espionage.
