Last year, as we came out of lockdown, we came up with the idea of taking readers out for a coach day, to breathe some fresh air, enjoy some companionship, and look for wildflowers.

And here we are, nearly a year later, coming out of a lockdown ... so, we thought, why not do it again!

Welcome to our ...

Wildflower Coach Days, 2021

A Nice Day Out

This year will be even better, because we have wildflower expert Grady Brand joining our Wildflower Coach Days.

Grady was senior curator for Kings Park and Botanic Gardens. He started work as a trainee at Kings Park in 1978 and worked in all sections of the park. For the last 20 years he was been senior curator, and greatly responsible for the Kings Park wildflower festival. He was also heavily involved in Kings Park’s gold medal wins at the Chelsea Flower Show in London in 1997 and 2000. He is a WA wildflower expert and great interpreter and narrator of WA’s amazing landscapes.

And he will be familiar to many readers, as Travel Editor Stephen Scourfield’s close friend and long-time remote travel companion.

They are great mates.

And Stephen will be on board with him, to host the day ... Stephen Scourfield says:

I must explain the extra name we have given to our Wildflower Coach Days. We also tag them ‘a nice day out’, as that’s just what they are — a lovely, social day, and a bit of a hunt. We don’t have an exact itinerary until we are on the road, as we are looking for the best flowers and most interesting landscapes on any day. But, be assured, wherever we do and whatever we see, we’ll have a nice day out, and share plenty of stories.”

This year we’ve partnered with ADAMS Coachlines — more great friends, with more than 35 vehicles in their fleet and locally owned and operated. We’ll be using one of their premium charter coaches renowned for their superior comfort, five-star facilities featuring large viewing windows, on board toilet, seat belts and a fantastic sound system to hear the expert commentary from your driver and guides.

And ADAMS is assigning one of their best drivers and botanical guides to our day trips, to help us spot those wildflowers.

Meals are included, with a morning “tea and muffin” stop, a packed lunch and a snack during the afternoon.
