West Travel Club offers events and tours . . . a way for us to spend time together, and for the Travel team to pass on some of its experience, one-on-one.

And it is a big, thriving community, with 40,000 members. To join in, all you have to do is visit westtravelclub.com.au/join and fill in your first and second names and email address.

We will then send you our free eTravel Digital Edition each Wednesday (and, of course, we won’t use your information for anything else). eTravel is full of new stories — generally news which has happened early in the week.

But we also launch all our events and tours first in eTravel, so West Travel Club members have first dibs. They will all sell out — most of them quickly. Sometimes they even sell out even before the weekend, so we pull stories about them from our printed editions.

That has certainly happened with our Travel Club Tours to India and Africa, for example.

Most recently it happened with Antarctica, when we filled the spots we had very quickly. I’ll add that I have led all of these, adding pre-departure events and being alongside all the way. And, yes, there will be more, announced first in eTravel.

Our PhotoWalks with Phones reveal all your phone camera is capable of (and on my last few assignments, I have only shot images and video on my iPhone). Mogens Johansen and I will show you the tricks on your phone, and work with PhotoWalkers on composition. We’ve also written a phone camera booklet, which everyone gets. We have some coming at Hillarys, Perth and Guildford, and there will be more (westtravelclub.com.au/events).

There’s our New Norcia weekend for readers, who can choose a photography workshop, travel writing course, or just enjoy the place and mixing with like-minded people (and our unusual evening concert).

There are Round the World Dinners, where I work with a chef and composer to bring travel alive with words, music and food.

We are also planning more Travel Quiz Nights and Meet the Team events.
