The biggest music stars in the world turned out for the 66th annual Grammy Awards where a slew of trophies were handed out and even a bombshell album announcement was dropped.

Music awards will always capture the world’s attention as it’s a way to keep an eye on where most of our favourite Hollywood A-listers are.

More importantly, it’s a chance to check out the weird and wonderful fashion looks and see who takes out the major gongs in music.

With eight other nominees, Swift beat the likes of Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS and Lana Del Rey’s Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd.

This is the fourth time one of her albums has been honoured and it breaks a tie with Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra and Paul Simon for most album of the year wins.

Her other three albums that have won in past awards were Fearless, 1989 and Folklore.

A huge night for the 34-year-old, she also took out the best pop vocal album for Midnights which marked her 13th Grammy.

And if the news couldn’t get any bigger, the pop queen used her acceptance speech to announce a brand new album called The Tortured Poets Department to be released on April 19.

The 16-track album took her two years to work on.

“Okay, this is my 13th Grammy. Which is my lucky number... if I’ve ever told you that,” she said on stage.

“I know that the way the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion from the fans.

“So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years

“Which is that my brand new album comes out April 19, it’s called The Tortured Poets Department, I’m going to go and post the cover right now backstage, thank you I love you.”

Taking out the second major award of the night was Miley Cyrus with Flowers for the record of the year.

Earlier in the night, Cyrus took out her first-ever Grammy for the best pop solo performance with the same song.

“When I wrote Flowers, I think part of its magic is that I had no expectations. I have a healthy relationship with numbers, and they excite me but do not define me,” she said after accepting the award.

This year’s category was almost entirely dominated by the Barbie film soundtrack contributions: Dua Lipa’s Dance the Night, Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s Barbie World and Ryan Gosling’s I’m Just Ken.

The now nine-time Grammy winner thanked Barbie director Greta Gerwig for “making the best movie of the year”.

The award for best new artist went to Victoria Monét and even though the 34-year-old R&B and pop singer released her debut EP a decade ago, she has had 12 months off after releasing her song On My Mama.

Kylie Minogue led the charge for the Aussies, scoring a huge win by taking home Best Pop Dance Recording for her massive hit Padam Padam.

She beat out an impressive cast of nominees that included dance pop stalwarts Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Ellie Goulding, Bebe Rexha and Perth’s own Troye Sivan.

The win is Minogue’s second, the first was in 2004 for Best Dance Recording for Come Into My World. In total, she has been nominated six times.

Also achieving a colossal win was Miley Cyrus who took out her first Grammy for the best pop solo performance with song Flowers.

“When I wrote Flowers, I think part of its magic is that I had no expectations. I have a healthy relationship with numbers, and they excite me but do not define me,” she said after accepting the award.

Another major moment of the night came during Jay Z’s speech after accepting the Global Impact Award.

He took to the stage alongside his 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy to accept the award but also dragged the organisation that honoured him.

While Jay Z paid tribute to the artists that came before him, he also called out the institution for its past failings. “Get it right, or at least get it close to right,” he said.

He then spoke about the Grammy’s perceived poor treatment of his wife, Beyoncé.

Despite being one of the most successful recording artists of all time, Beyoncé has been historically overlooked in the major categories.

“She has the most Grammys and never won album of the year – that doesn’t work.”

“Some of you don’t even belong in the category,” he said. Before adding, “Sorry, when I get nervous, I tell the truth.”
