Dramatic footage has revealed the moment four people were winched to safety after being trapped on the roof of their car as they tried to drive through a flooded river.
The three women and a man became trapped in a Nissan 4WD after they tried to cross the Macalister River at the popular Burgoyne Track in the Victorian High Country about 8pm on Thursday.
Victorian Police said the occupants became trapped after the rear of the car was lifted by the water, pushing the car into the current, before the vehicle stalled.
The Victoria Police Air Wing has rescued four occupants from a four-wheel drive washed away while trying to cross a flooded Glenmaggie River last night.
The Nissan drifted about 25 metres downstream before coming to a stop.
Police say the well-equipped group climbed onto the roof of the car before they used a satellite phone to call for help.

Victoria Police said the river was under a minor flood warning alert at the time.
Officers from the Air Wing flew into action and located the Nissan with four stranded, and very cold occupants, on the roof.
The group was taken to hospital where they were cold and wet but were unharmed.
Victoria Police say they will look for the vehicle once the floodwaters have subsided.
They are also cautioning others against driving, walking or riding through floodwaters.
