Jesse Daniel McLennan: Little Grove man accused of fatal Bornholm crash has drug-driving charge dropped

The man accused of causing a fatal crash that claimed the life of a young woman in Bornholm earlier this year has had a charge of drug-driving dropped. Jesse Daniel McLennan, 27, appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on Thursday to learn he now only faced charges of dangerous driving causing death, and driving with more than 0.08g of alcohol in his system. Police prosecutor Sgt. Dylan Fisher discontinued the charge of driving with a blood alcohol content of or above 0.08g while a prescribed illicit drug was present in the oral fluid or blood, following negotiations with Mr McLennan’s defence lawyer Lisa Riley. The accused indicated a guilty plea to drink-driving on June 5 but has not formally entered any pleas. Mr McLennan was allegedly driving a silver Toyota LandCruiser on Lower Denmark Road in Bornholm, about 30km west of Albany, about 4.10am on April 10 when his vehicle collided with a woman’s white Toyota LandCruiser. Emergency services were called about 4.20am, but the 34-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene. Mr McLennan will next appear in Albany Magistrates Court on September 11 for a committal mention date.
