Broome Women’s Leadership Forum launches scholarship for future female leaders

The most senior former Muslim naval officer in the country, first female assistant coach in the AFL and a WA police inspector have all spoken at a special event in Broome.
The Women’s Leadership Forum, held by the Broome Chamber of Commerce, took place on March 27 at the Broome Civic Centre.
The event brought together the powerhouse line-up of speakers, including retired Royal Australian Navy captain Mona Shindy, First Nations singer-songwriter Monique Le Lievre, AFL coach Michelle Cowan, chief executive of Magabala Books Lilly Brown, and police inspector Robyn Green.
Broome Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive Mala Haji-Ali said the chamber played a vital role in strengthening the community, and events like the Women’s Leadership Forum were at the heart of that impact.
“By bringing people together to connect and collaborate, we’re not only empowering individuals but also lifting the broader business sector across Broome,” she said.
“When people feel supported, they are better equipped to lead and contribute meaningfully to our local economy. “
One of the highlights of the event was the announcement of the inaugural Broome Chamber Women’s Leadership Scholarship.
In partnership with Pilbara Kimberley University Centre, the scholarship aims to support a Kimberley-based woman to further her studies in business or leadership.
“The announcement of our inaugural Women’s Leadership Scholarship, with funds raised from the event, further reinforces this commitment by investing in the next generation of regional leaders,” Ms Haji-Ali said.
