Police are investigating a horror crash in which two people were killed after being hit by a car on a major highway south of Perth.

The tragedy happened after a 31-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man parked their white MG sedan in the south-bound emergency lane of Forrest Highway, south of Pinjarra Road in South Yunderup, about 6.20pm on Sunday.

A short time later, a dark blue Volvo station wagon — which was travelling south on Forrest Highway — collided with the pair.

The Volvo driver called emergency services and assisted on the scene.

However, the woman and the man were seriously hurt and died at the scene.

Major crash investigators are appealing for any witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online here.
