Big wins mark start of Friday games
Last week was the start of Friday night games for the Port Hedland Softball Association, with the Raiders thrashing the Jets 19-4 and the Pirates beating the Hawks 13-3 on Saturday.
On the Friday night, Raiders’ top-batting score went to Lee Mead, who had two hits with a single and a double off her four times at bat.
Sarah Ziegelaar and Timara Simpson followed closely, contributing two runs batted in each.
Pitching the entire four innings, Tishyra Ryan earned three strike-outs for Raiders.
Despite the dismal scoreboard, Jets battled hard, with June Tittums scoring one RBI off her double and Kristy Morgan scoring another from her single.
Toni McMahon pitched the entire four innings, earning three strike-outs for Jets.
Saturday’s was an exciting-five innings game, with Pirates taking an easy win from Hawks 13-3.
Mackayla Denney was the star of the day with two RBIs off her two hits, as well as two singles.
Following closely behind, Gemima Rahman contributed three RBIs from four times at bat and Zoe Britcliffe had two RBIs.
Denney also pitched the entire five innings for Pirates, earning an incredible nine strike-outs.
Hawks fought hard, with Teagane Ramirez and Leanne Day contributing one RBI each from their two times at bat.
Ramirez earned herself a double, while Day earned herself a single.
Kellie Jackman began the game pitching but was quickly taken-over by Ramirez.
Neither earned any strike-outs.
Next week will be an all-Saturday competition, with Pirates 1 taking on Jets 1 and Raiders 2 taking on Cougars at 1.30pm; followed by Pirates 2 taking on PCYC, and Raiders 1 taking on Hawks at 3.30pm at Marie Mayland Reserve.
