Fishing enthusiasts will converge on Hedland waters this weekend for the 25th annual Blue Water Fishing competition.

Running over Saturday and Sunday, fishers of all ages will compete in the three sections of land, dinghy and water-based fishing in an effort to catch the biggest and best fish.

Port Hedland Game Fishers Club president Gavin Jones said the competition was designed for everyone, no matter how they liked to fish or their experience.

“Ultimately it’s a bit of fun and a good excuse to go fishing for the weekend,” he said. “We get novices, people who fish every weekend and people new to sport, depending on what they want to do.”

This Friday the club will host a pre-briefing night at their McKay Street headquarters, where people can register for the competition, enjoy light refreshments and find out everything they need to know to succeed for the weekend.

After the competition, a presentation night will be held on September 6 at the Walkabout Hotel, where awards will be presented in all categories.
