De Grey fire burning south east
A bushfire advice has been issues for people travelling along Great Northern Highway in the De Grey vicinity of the Town of Port Hedland.
The fire, which was lit deliberately in bushland three kilometres north of Great Northern Highway, has put people in the Marta Marta community and Boral Quarry on alert.
Town rangers, Port Hedland bush fire Brigade and local pastoralists firefighters are attending the blaze as it moves slowly in a south easterly direction.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said while there is no threat to lives or homes yet, locals need to be aware and up to date as the situation changes.
Drivers have been advised to drive slowly with headlights on and watch for emergency services personnel.
While no roads are yet to be closed, drivers have been asked to avoid the area if possible and reduce their speed.
People have also been asked to report any suspicious behaviour to Police Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
