Raiders await winner of Jets and Pirates in Hedland softball grand final

The Raiders are through to the Hedland softball grand final and the jets will play off in the preliminary final, after comfortable victories over the Pirates and PCYC at Marie Marland Reserve on Friday. The jets easily took care of PCYC 10-nil behind a best on ground performance from Toni McMahon who went three for four with three runs-batted-in. Vanessa Wainwright contributed as she went two for three with three RBI’s while team mate Di Tittums managed two for three and two RBI’s. McMahon displayed her skills with the ball in hand as well when she pitched an efficient three hits, five strike outs and two walks. Sarah Briody and Carmel Ford were best afield for PCYC in a losing side with performances of one for three and one for one respectively. In the later fixture, The minor premiers Raiders brought their home and away form into finals as they toppled the Pirates 14-4. Kelly Johnson propelled her team to victory with a two for three showing and four RBI’s while Mara Simpson chipped in with three RBI’s and went two for three. Bec Healy performed well for the grand final favourites with two for three and two RBI’s. Pirates’ Jess Finch batted well with two for three and Karina Etelle followed suit with one for two and two RBI’s. Pirates’ team mate Chloe Glasson was awarded the best and fairest medal for season 2021 and showed why with one RBI as she hit one for two. Emma Simpson pitched her side to victory with four hits, two strikeouts and three walks. The Jets will face the Pirates this Friday in the preliminary final to determine who will battle it out against the Raiders in the grand final on September 10.
