The Port Hedland Women’s Softball Association’s 2017 season starts today with an A-grade and A-reserves competition.

The first week will see a replay of the 2016 A-grade grand final, with the Raiders taking on last year’s premiers, the Pirates, at 3.30pm.

PCYC player Rachel Cosgrove said the association was always looking for new faces and invited women of all ages and skill levels.

“Any ladies who haven’t played before and want to give it a go, or someone looking to get back into sport are very welcome to come down and have a game and enjoy the social side of softball after the games,” she said.

“We also have young girls playing, so if you are turning 12 this year and would like to play, come down and have a go.”

The association will be trying Friday night games as well as Saturday afternoon games at Marie Marland Reserve in an effort to attract more women to the sport, both on the field and off.

The first Friday night games will start this week at 5.30pm and 7.15pm.
