Openers Taurean Williams and Razi Zain guided the Miners to a seven-wicket victory over Rovers in round six of the Ray Stoddart Shield on March 11.

Rovers batted first at Kevin Scott Oval and made a steady start before some sharp fielding saw both openers ran out, leaving the side at 2/61.

Ashley Mulhall (24) and Josh Harvey (25 not out) partnered to give their side a defendable total, pushing Rovers to 6/133.

In reply, Williams and Zain put on a power hitting masterclass, to set up the Miners for victory.

Williams blasted 60 from 28 before he was dismissed and Zain made 44 from 37.

In the end, Miners cruised to victory in the 16th over to finish on 3/134 and claim the seven-wicket victory.

In the other games, a four-wicket haul from South Hedland’s’ Shane Hayes saw Port Hedland dismissed for just 67 runs while his teammate Patrick Miller picked up three wickets.

Needing just 68 runs to win, South Hedland chased down the total with ease in the 12th over to finish 2/68.

Aidan Enright was the top scorer for South with 30 runs while Jarrad O’Dea and Jarred Ams picked up a wicket each.

In the final game of the round, Wanderers claimed a three-wicket victory over rivals Hedland Lions in a nail-biter of a match,

Lions batted first and got off to a shaky start losing three wickets early for just 20 runs.

A fighting half century from Dhaval Prajapati (54 not out) guided his side to a defendable 7/134.

Wanderers top order got the side off to a flying start with opener Bailey Minissale making a season-high score of 58 runs before he was dismissed.

A late fight back from the bowlers saw Wanderers slip from 3/101 to 7/128 to give Lions a sniff of victory.

It proved too little to late with Wanderers able to score the winning runs on the last ball of the innings.

In the end Wanderers finished 7/136 to win by three wickets.
