Hunter Valley: Current Optus outage may impact triple-0 calls in Port Stephens, Maitland

Optus is currently experiencing an outage which it said may impact triple-0 calls less than two months after an outage was linked to three deaths.
The telco confirmed that as of 3pm AEST an outage was impacting areas in the Hunter Valley region and surrounds.
It said it was “responding to a fibre break” which has been impacting customers in Port Stephens, Maitland and other surrounding areas.
Mobile voice and mobile data services alongside the ability to connect to triple-0 may be impacted.
“Optus technicians are onsite working to restore services as quickly as possible. We apologise to impacted customers and will continue to provide regular updates.”
The telco said welfare checks in relation to failed attempt to connect to triple-0 are underway.
It said an investigation is underway to determine if the fibre break was caused by an act of vandalism.
Affected customers may be able to make emergency calls using WiFi
The list of impacted postcodes includes: 2334, 2820, 2318, 2316, 2325, 2319, 2324, 2320, 2823, 2156, 2321, 2335, 2326, 2423, 2330, 2329, 2333 and 2453.
