Motorists told to slow down as Pilbara police record standard amount of offences over Labour Day long weekend

With a standard number of offences recorded over the recent long weekend, Pilbara traffic have again pleaded for motorists to slow down, saying there should be “no rush” on the road. The Labour Day long weekend saw more than 500 vehicles stopped in the region with two drink-drivers caught over the legal limit, one drug driver and 11 infringements given out for speeding and two for failing to wear a seatbelt. Pilbara District traffic co-ordinator Sergeant Jason Gentili said the numbers were “pretty standard”. “I’ll just be saying to the public that we’re lucky at this point in time that we didn’t have anything more serious than what we could’ve had,” he said. “We faired a little bit better than other districts. “I’ll still say that inattention is one of our biggest risks out there on the highway and they just need to slow down on their return trip because most of these tickets came from the Monday public holiday — slow down, you’ll get there, there should be no rush.” Sgt. Gentili warned motorists to start becoming more alert as they prepare to bring the multanova mobile camera back to the Pilbara.
