It didn’t take long for a loaded doughnut business to create a community of sweet-tooths in the Goldfields

A new Perth-based loaded doughnut business on wheels has quickly built a loyal following in Kalgoorlie-Boulder — returning to the town for its second time in three months due to popular demand. Partners Robert Scott and Casey Evans, who operate a mini Dutch pancake food trailer full-time in Perth, recently launched their latest business Doughboy Donuts in April, serving warm doughnuts with extravagant toppings. Mr Scott said the pair wanted to create a food truck like no other, which was how Doughboy Donuts came about. “We thought ‘what can we do? What’s something that no one’s doing in Perth or in WA?’,” he said. “So yeah, we came up with loaded doughnuts . . . It’s almost a full mea,l in a way. “It’s been firing ever since.” After a successful first run in Kalgoorlie-Boulder at this year’s Multicultural Festival, the pair decided to return to the town with their truck for a three-day visit before operating at the 2025 Coolgardie Rodeo and Outback Festival this weekend. Mr Scott said the long-time business owners had enjoyed taking their food trucks to regional towns, as it gave communities the opportunity to try something different, and was a chance for the pair to support other local businesses. “It’s something you can’t really get around here — that’s the reason we like to come out to these places,” he said. “It’s just good to come back and see the familiar faces, you know. It makes us feel like we’re doing something a bit out of the nine-to-five — what we get stuck in when we are in Perth. “We try and buy all of our stock locally as well, as much as we possibly can from the local suppliers . . . So that way we’re putting money back in that we are also, you know, gaining as well.” He said the warm support from the Kalgoorlie-Boulder community had made the pair feel at home during their recent visit. “We saw so many familiar faces, (people saying) ‘Thank God you’re back’, you know, ‘We’ve all been waiting’,” he said. “So, it was really good to see that we obviously did something very good the first time.” People will be able to find Doughboy Donuts at Centennial Park from 3pm-8pm until Wednesday night, or at the 2025 Coolgardie Rodeo and Outback Festival from August 15-17. The truck’s next appearance in the region will be at Coolgardie Day in September.
