Three rescued after 20-tonne boat carrying diesel, hydraulic oil wrecked in waters of Cook Island, off NSW Tweed Coast

Three people have been rescued after a 2o-tonne boat broke from its mooring and became wrecked off the northern NSW coast. In a statement, NSW Maritime said they were monitoring the timber-hulled vessel after it broke from its mooring on the western side of Cook Island, off the Tweed Coast, about 8pm on Saturday. The ship has diesel and hydraulic oil on board and the hull was breached, but remains intact. “Currently the vessel is sitting inside a reef and hard against the eastern side of the island, in very turbulent waters,” a NSW Maritime spokesman said on Sunday. “Due to the current conditions and the location, NSW Maritime personnel are unable to access or recover the vessel.” Three people were rescued from the vessel after the incident was reported. NSW Maritime said there was no evidence of pollution in the area but would continue to monitor the vessel throughout the day and night. More to come.
