Next steps together

Camilo BlancoNorth West Telegraph

It’s National Reconciliation Week this week and the Town of Port Hedland would like to celebrate this important week with the Port Hedland community.

The Town’s Reconciliation Action Plan is helping us shape the way forward to strengthen acknowledgement and engagement of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Our key focus is to raise awareness within the organisation to pursue employment, business development and other opportunities in a sustainable manner.

Our staff and facilities have been celebrating this year’s theme for the week, Let’s Take the Next Steps, with our footprint-decorating activity.

Everyone in the community can participate by visiting either of the libraries or the JD Hardie Youth Zone, and decorating a footprint-shaped cut-out.

The Town is hosting a community concert this Saturday from 5pm. There will be live performances by Aboriginal artists and groups Bradley Hall, The Family Shoveler Band and local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dancers, as well as plenty of children’s activities and a free barbecue.

You can also decorate a footprint at the concert, where all the footprints from the week will be on display.

The Town would like to thank supporting partner Monadelphous and sponsors FMG and Coles for making this event possible.
