South Africa reached 1-203 after being asked to bat first but lost a bundle of wickets through the middle of the day to allow the tourists back into the contest.

Recap the action from our blog.

Goodnight!

That ends the first day in Cape Town and we have a contest on our hands!

South Africa really could have put Australia away today but missed their chance, handing the tourists the opportunity to capitalise on day two.

We will be back for the start of play on Wednesday!

KEEP, BENCH, CUT

ANALYSIS: Australia nearly blew their chances bowling first on a batting wicket, but some key mistakes from South Africa, good spin bowling and Mitchell Starc have kept the tourists alive in the Cape Town decider.

Stumps

With three wickets in four balls, Starc calls stumps!

The Aussies will be delighted that they have escaped what would could have been a nightmare with South Africa reaching 1-203.

Starc ends with six and he was explosive.

However, most importantly, Australia will now be able to start their batting in blazing sunshine tomorrow.

PLUMB!!!!!!!

Starc ends with six!

He speared the ball into Rabada’s pads and despite a review, he goes for a duck.

Starc went full with in swing and it comes off the pads and back onto the stumps.

SA 9-329

Both ways

Cummins is getting the ball to swing both ways and delivers a rare Test wide!

It was a very long way outside off stump.

SA 8-329

Bowled him!

This yorker is even better!

It hits the base of off stump after swinging in nicely.

Jansen was staying leg side and had no chance with the potent late swing.

The two major wickets go down for the home side.

However, the Aussie openers will hope they don’t take the next two within the next 10 minutes or they will have to face an over or two tonight.

SA 8-328

Perfect!

Starc gets Rickleton with a yorker!

He played across the swing and is trapped dead in front of the stumps.

Huge wicket from the big quick, his third.
