Another milestone in a historic season awaits Perth Heat great Tim Kennelly when he takes to the diamond for his 400th Australian Baseball League game.

Kennelly, who will become the first player in league history to achieve the feat, will accomplish the achievement on Thursday night when the Heat host Canberra Cavalry at Empire Ballpark.

The veteran, who broke the previous ABL games record less than two weeks ago, is also within one run of setting a new league record for home runs.

Kennelly said he was honoured and privileged to have reached the 400 mark.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play with and against the best players in Australia and around the world. I’m forever grateful to the Perth Heat organisation for allowing me to continue to play the game that I love,” he said.

“Of course this wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Heat franchise, ownership group, office staff, all the coaches and players over the years, my family and of course the incredible Perth Heat fans.”

Heat chief executive Brett Patten said was Kennelly’s journey to the milestone was a testament to his longevity and adaptability.

“Tim Kennelly embodies everything that is great about baseball and the Australian Baseball League,” Patten said.

“He’s a leader on and off the field, a role model for aspiring athletes, and a cherished member of the Heat family.”

After a slow start to the season, the Heat have moved up to fourth spot, with a sizable, four and a half game gap between them and fifth-placed Sydney Blue Sox.

A series victory over Canberra this weekend would put the pressure on the three teams above them, including first-placed Adelaide Giants, who are just one game ahead of the Heat.
