Brewers and Swans faced off on Saturday at the start of the Port Hedland Baseball Association competition, with Brewers winning 16-4.

The later game had a dismal result as reigning champions Pirates failed to fill a side, earning Sharks the win by forfeit 7-0.

Brewers showed no signs of off-season cobwebs as they got off to a great start in the first inning, shocking the Swans field with a 10-run lead.

Swans, knowing they had their work cut out for them, tightened their gloves, only allowing minimal scoring from the second inning onwards, but were unable to match the feat set by the opposing side.

Top batting spot for Brewers went to Fred Lindberg, who went four from four with three singles and a double, also earning four runs batted in.

A close second was Jesse Barron, who batted two singles from three hits, earning two RBIs.

Brendan Bush also earned two RBIs from a single hit, while teammate and Brewers newcomer Mitch Bycroft added a single RBI from one hit. Swans’ Jeff Edward topped the batting chart for his team, earning a single RBI from one hit of two, while fellow player Warren Templeman also added a single RBI from one hit.

Pitching was a shared effort for both sides, with Brewers’ Dylan Brown taking to the mound first.

Brown had a single strikeout from his four-and-a-half inning stint, followed on by Fred Lindberg, who added another strikeout from the end of the final inning.

Swans’ pitching began with their youngest member, Kane Edwards, who earned a single strikeout.

Edwards was then followed on by older brother Kyle, who struck out an impressive eight Brewers throughout three innings.

This weekend Brewers will face t Pirates at 4.30pm, while Swans will look for redemption under lights against Sharks at 7.30pm.
